Last night I dreamt that I lived in a town surrounded by water on three sides. And, the water would swell, periodically flooding the area. When we saw the swell of water arriving at our doorsteps, everyone knew that we should follow the path; the one area of land that connected us to higher ground. Everyone who lived in the town would wait on higher ground for the water to slowly diminish and then we could return to our homes. The water didn’t actually destroy our homes, but rather it just pulled with it any debris, or anything that did not belong in our lives.
When I woke up, I remained still long enough to remember and consider the message of my dream. This is why we have dreams. Our soul is learning while we are asleep. Our dreams are an avenue for direction and guidance in our life. And, if we pause in the morning, before we get out of bed, to reflect on our nighttime messages, we create a bridge of understanding about what we are currently experiencing and how to maneuver these life lessons. So, I actively engage in this practice and find the knowledge to be extraordinarily helpful.
This particular dream, I recognized, was reminding me that Love is the path that shelters all of us from any emotional upheavel which besieges us in our lives.
Water, in dreams, represents emotions. So, the water that was flooding our town in my dream signified periods of time when the people in my life were experiencing a swell of emotions. The path to higher ground was symbolizing the vibration of Love. And, anyone who chose this path, or Love frequency, would move through the swell of emotions with ease and clarity. This dream was a signal to me to remember to rise above any energetic turbulence by choosing Love.
Yesterday, I experienced both my husband and my son being immersed in emotional turbulence. And fortunately, I was able to bring peace and comfort to both of them through my conscious choice to stay rooted in Love. As I watched their feelings of lack escalate for various reasons, I decided to not respond from the perspective of ego. I chose not to fall into fear. I rooted myself in the knowing that despite their own reflection of confusion and fear, I would anchor the truth of Love. And although it felt miraculous at the time, in hindsight, I realize that it was my alignment with Love that allowed them to move through their own feelings and come back to peace.
Anything aligned with the Love frequency, so compassion, forgiveness, stillness, and the truth that we are whole and complete regardless of what someone else is reflecting to us, literally melts or dissipates the energy of fear. That is the power of Love.
When we choose to react or hurl anger back at someone who has fallen into the energy of fear, we only escalate the emotional chaos. This truth was very succinctly provided to us through the wisdom of Martin Luther King Jr.:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only Love can do that.”
Or, the insight of Albert Einstein:
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
We cannot choose fear to help another in pain. We must move beyond the old paradigm of thinking which only encouraged us to be defensive, to retaliate, to punish, or to hurt back. That mode of thinking holds us in the outdated belief that we must protect ourselves and punish those in distress. But yet, that is not the solution. Hate cannot drive out hate.
So when you experience another suffering, anchor in Love. Envelope yourself and others in the comfort of that vibration. There is no need to defend or retaliate for that only solidifies the frequency of fear. If you need to walk away for a bit, do so. But when you do, hold Love in your heart and send that beautiful energy to them as well. Rise above the chaos and fear in all ways through the path and the truth of Love.
Eventually, we all come back to the truth of Love. There can be no other way. It is the truth of who we are. Love is.
